As a child I loved to write poems. I can still remember the excitement at being chosen to read one about a Royal wedding on BBC radio. And the words to a poem about Mount Vesuvius which wowed my teachers often run through my mind. But with time and age it's a pastime I had largely forgotten. Until recently.
While writing my first book, Esmeralda's Endless Summer, I stumbled across the beautiful nature poems of Mary Oliver and Oliver Herman. Having recently gone through some difficult times personally I turned to writing similar poems as a sort of therapy. I found the simple rhythms soothing and the rhymes and structure a way of slowing my racing thoughts. I've recently combined them with some artwork, which is available to purchase through Etsy. I've added a selection below and hope you enjoy them.
